Abstract

Based on the official statistics for 1986–2016, a comparative analysis of the rate of stillbirth in boys and girls in radiation-contaminated areas of the Bryansk region after the Chernobyl disaster with different radioactive contamination densities for long-lived radionuclides of 137Cs and 90Sr was performed. No significant differences were found in the stillbirth rate for both boys and girls in the radioactively contaminated and non contaminated areas of the Bryansk region during 31 years after the Chernobyl disaster (1986–2016). A significant excess coefficient of stillborn boys over girls is revealed in radiation-contaminated areas (17%) as compared with the corresponding data on the region (10%) and control areas (8%), with the most significant differences observed in the third period after the disaster (52%).
