Abstract
The basic assumptions, model and software to estimate the dose distribution of external β- and γ-irradiation in the vertical soil profile are described for radionuclides entering biogeocoenosis from single fallout. Furthermore, the dynamics of their distribution in the surface of the «plants–soil» system was taken into account. The model was verified with alternative calculation methods. Significant contribution into exposure of the upper layers of the soil profile was established from β-emitting radionuclides appearing on the surface of soil and plants. The developed software can be applied to estimate the external doses from β-and γ-radiation to soil micro- and mesofauna living at various depths in the soil profile.
