Abstract

Research into behavior of radioactive particles of a different origin in natural environment and food chains involving human and farm animals is one of the most important topics in radioecology. This article shows the results of experimental studies on radiobiology and radioecology of farm animals, which were inaccessible for a scientific community for many years. The aim of this work was to analyze the kinetic parameters of the passage rate of radioactive silicate particles through the digestive tract of sheep using the compartment model. The model is based on the results of radiobiological experiments performed under vivarium conditions with 29 sheep of Précoce and Merino breeds, 2-4 years old and weighing from 20 to 40 kg. Our results demonstrate significant differences in the passage rate between silicate radioactive particles and radioactive solutions and feed particles through the gastrointestinal tract of sheep. The kinetics of transport of the radioactive particles is determined not only by the physical and chemical properties of the particles, but also by the parameters of the motor function of the digestive tract, as well as the contents and morphological characteristics of the structure of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract. The obtained transport parameters can be taken into account in the tasks of internal dosimetry, as well as in models for radionuclide metabolism in the composition of radioactive particles with different solubility in the contents of the digestive tract.
