Abstract

Radiation skin damage is a frequent complication in radiation incidents and radiation therapy of cancer patients. A liposomal pharmaceutical drug containing recombinant human alpha-fetoprotein (rhAFP) and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhGCSF) is proposed for the treatment of radiation skin burns. Experiments aimed at studying the effectiveness of various schemes of liposomal pharmaceutical drug on the pathogenesis of radiation skin burn in CD1 mice were conducted. It has been shown that transdermal administration of liposomes from phospholipids containing 0.5 mg/ml rhAFP, 0.02 mg/ml rhGCSF has a beneficial effect on the course of radiation burn. The most pronounced effect was observed after administration of a liposomal pharmaceutical drug with the proteins immediately after irradiation, then daily for 5 days and then for 7, 9, 13 days after irradiation. Studies performed on experimental animals showed a significant lengthening of the latent period by 24%, a reduction in the duration of wet epidermitis by 47%, duration of the reparative phase by 50%, and a reduction in the total time of healing of radiation burn by 48% relative to the indices of local irradiation of the mice skin without treatment. The obtained data testify to the prospects of using this liposomal pharmaceutical drug as an agent for the treatment of radiation dermatitis.
