Abstract

The data on the substrate microbiome from the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant obtained by the NGS technique are presented. There are significant differences in the structure of the microbiomes from various sampling points. The most stable and diverse is the one obtained from the substrate sampled from the outside of the Shelter construction (conditional control). There are no obvious dominants in it; accordingly, it is the most balanced and approximate by general characteristics to the microbiomes of the soil located around Chernobyl NPP. For samples of the substrate, the dose rate at the site of extraction in the reactor rooms was the highest (up to 0.12 Gy/h); the total number of the detected species was 8 times lower than in the control, and the dominance index was high, which indicates the formation of microbiomes with well-defined dominants.
