Abstract

The results of applying the prognosis method of post-radiation curves of the blood neutrophil number dynamics after acute non-uniform irradiation are presented in this paper. The method is based both on the use of a special computer program and the results of a cytogenetic analysis of peripheral blood lymphocyte cultures. This program translates the distribution of cells according to the number of dicentrics contained in them into the lymphocyte distribution by the dose received. The data from 10 patients affected in five different radiation incidents are produced. In order to take into account radiation-induced proliferation delay and interphase cell death, the observed dicentric distributions were corrected. Based on a comparison of the real and predicted curves for the neutrophil count dynamics, a conclusion has been drawn that they are generally in satisfactory agreement.
